Do You Need to Read the Parent Series First?

Short answer: It’s highly recommended, but not always required.

For the best experience and full emotional payoff, yes — most spin-offs assume you’re already familiar with the characters and their history from the parent series. The tension, chemistry, and inside jokes hit much harder when you know the backstory.

However, many of these spin-offs are written to be enjoyable as standalone stories. The premises are clear enough that you can jump in and still have a lot of fun.

Important exceptions:
