Hello, hello everyone! I’m Alex Corner, and today the blog team and I are presenting to you a new interview with the creative writer of HoneyToon. Today, my guest is Mischievous Moon – she is one of the first creative writers in Honeytoon, and her tropes were really legendary!

How It Started

Welcome to our studio, Mischievous Moon! Can you describe what you look like to our readers?

MM:  I’m not really sure how I would describe myself, but my friends and acquaintances would probably say that I’m not the kind of person you’d expect to write this type of literature. At first glance, I don’t fit the stereotype people often associate with romance and adult comic writers, which tends to surprise people when they learn what I do for a living.

You are one of the first writers on Honeytoon. How did you and Honeytoon find each other? Was it a match from the first interview? 

MM: My love for webtoons began when I was around sixteen years old. Back then, I read a huge number of BL webtoons that explored relationships between male characters. However, over time, I drifted away from both BL and webtoons in general and eventually stopped reading them for a while.

Two years ago, after completing a screenwriting course, I started thinking seriously about where I wanted to work and how I could apply my storytelling skills professionally. Around that time, I came across an interview opportunity for this position. I honestly didn’t expect that webtoons of this kind were being created here, and the chance to become part of such a project felt incredibly new and exciting to me. It was something completely different from anything I had done before, which made the opportunity even more appealing.

You have been working in Honeytoon for two years. Is it true? How many titles did you write? And what interesting things did you learn inside this company?

MM: Quite a few of the titles that our readers know and love today were written by me, at least for a significant part of their development. Some examples include Teach Me First, Honeymoon with My Mother-in-Law, and Outlaw Girl.

These are stories that were very close to my heart, and I spent a lot of time working on them. It’s incredibly rewarding to see readers enjoying characters and storylines that I helped create. Knowing that these titles resonate with people and have built a loyal audience is one of the most satisfying parts of my job as a writer.

I know you’ve grown into the leader of the writing team now. How is your work different from what you used to do before the promotion? Do you continue to create new stories?

MM: These days, I rarely write comics myself. Most of my work is focused on planning, editing, developing new concepts, and overseeing ongoing projects. My role has gradually shifted from directly scripting and storyboarding episodes to something closer to that of a showrunner.

I work with writers, help shape story direction, refine plots and characters, and make sure each title stays true to its vision while remaining engaging for readers. While I still love the creative process of writing, I now spend much more time guiding projects from a broader perspective and helping other creators bring their stories to life.

Creative Process & Style

What about your workday? Do you have any rituals?  And where are you looking for your inspiration?

MM: Yes, I think creating the right atmosphere is incredibly important when writing. Music plays a huge role in helping me immerse myself in a story and capture the mood I’m trying to convey. For example, if I’m working on a cozy, slice-of-life story, I’ll usually put on some relaxing lo-fi music that creates a calm, easygoing morning vibe. If the story takes place on a farm, I might look for instrumental country music to help me get into that setting. On the other hand, if I’m writing a crime or police-themed story, I’ll choose something more energetic and intense—sometimes even soundtracks from my favorite detective or action films.

What is the most correct way to write scripts, in your opinion? Is there even an ideal way to do this?

MM: I don’t think there is a single formula for creating the perfect webtoon. Every writer has their own approach to storytelling, character development, and building plots. Each creator is unique, and the same goes for the stories they tell, which is why it’s difficult to define one “ideal” method.

For me, the creative process can start in many different ways. Sometimes an entire story grows from a single scene that I can’t get out of my head. Other times, it begins with a character whose personality fascinates me, and the plot develops around them. Every project has its own starting point and its own journey, which is what makes writing such an exciting and unpredictable process.

Your stories are praised for excellent facial expressions, body language, and slow-burning tension. How much attention do you give to these details when writing scripts?

MM: When writing my stories, I try to follow the principle of “show, don’t tell.” Whenever possible, I focus on conveying emotions through visual storytelling rather than explaining everything through dialogue.

Which of your titles was the most fun (or most challenging) for you to write, and why? And which character you’ve created is the most “dangerous” or hardest to control?

MM: One of the first truly challenging titles I worked on was Winter Games. The story featured a large cast of characters, with scenes involving multiple girls and boys interacting at the same time. Coordinating and directing those scenes was quite demanding because every character needed to feel present and active within the frame.

I had to constantly keep track of where everyone was sitting, how they were reacting, who was speaking, and how the dynamics between the characters evolved throughout the scene. At the same time, all of those interactions needed to naturally build toward the key relationship moments between Stacy and the main character. Balancing so many moving parts while keeping the scene clear and engaging was a real challenge.

Another difficult but rewarding project was Outlaw Girl. The protagonist was very different from the kinds of female characters we had created before. Compared to the sweet, quiet stepmoms that readers were used to, she was bold, unpredictable, and chaotic. Introducing a character like that was a risk, and one of the biggest challenges was maintaining her unique personality consistently throughout the story. It was important that she remained authentic and unexpected without losing the qualities that made readers connect with her in the first place.

You often collaborate with other creators like Pantsumania or Heraldic Lilly. What’s the dynamic like when you work together compared to your solo projects?

MM: Today, many of my talented colleagues have become part of my team, and one of the most rewarding aspects of my role is supporting and inspiring them as they develop their own titles.

I do my best to help them grow as creators, refine their ideas, and bring their stories to life. Seeing a concept evolve from an initial idea into a finished series is always exciting, and I hope that the titles created by our team will become stories that you, our readers, will love just as much as we enjoy creating them.

The Most Popular Tropes 

You are one of the authors of the legendary 2. Where did the idea for writing this story come from? What inspired this family ranch story with multiple layers of attraction?

MM: The idea for the story actually came together quite naturally. At the time, one of our most popular titles was Vacation with My Stepmom, and I wanted to create something that didn’t take place in the houses and apartments that are so common in many webtoons.

I was looking for a setting that would feel more familiar and appealing to Western audiences, so I chose a ranch. I drew a lot of inspiration from American culture—the romance of ranch life, horses, stables, wide-open landscapes, and the classic cowboy aesthetic. All of those elements fascinated me and helped shape the atmosphere of the story.

It felt like the perfect opportunity to create something fresh for readers who were tired of stories confined to four walls. I wanted to give them a setting that felt larger, more adventurous, and full of possibilities for both romance and character development.

Which moment in Teach Me First do you like the most, and which one, in your opinion, has the biggest impact on the plot?

MM: One of the most important scenes in the story, in my opinion, is the one that takes place during the thunderstorm. It’s a turning point where Mia takes the initiative and shows just how clever and persistent she can be.

At the same time, Andy finds himself in an incredibly difficult position. He has always promised to be there for his little sister, which makes it hard for him to refuse her, but he also has to navigate the fact that his wife is sleeping right beside them. The tension created by those conflicting responsibilities makes the scene especially compelling.

This moment wasn’t included by accident—it plays a significant role in the development of the characters’ relationships. It reveals important aspects of their personalities and pushes the emotional dynamics between them in a new direction.

Teach Me First is more of a summer story. And the most popular winter story on the Honeytoon platform is Winter Games. This comic has a very cozy yet steamy ski resort setting with step-siblings and friends. What made you choose the winter vacation vibe for that story?

MM: I love winter sports and try not to miss a season when I can go skiing or snowboarding. Because of that, the setting felt very natural to me.

When there was a request to create a Christmas-themed story with snowy mountain peaks and a memorable setting, the idea came almost immediately. I wanted to capture the atmosphere of a winter resort—the excitement of the slopes, the beauty of the mountains, and the cozy holiday feeling that comes with the season.

Combining romance with a snowy, festive backdrop felt like the perfect way to create a story that was both visually appealing and fun for readers to immerse themselves in.

Winter Games proved to be very popular and remains so to this day. This year, you released a sequel to Winter Games 2, “MILF Edition”. Do you and your team plan to release a unique title every year as a special treat for the winter holidays?

MM: I can’t reveal anything about next year’s holiday stories just yet. However, Winter Games 2 felt like a natural continuation of the original story, allowing us to spend more time with characters that readers had already grown attached to.

As for the future—who knows? There’s always a possibility that we may see these characters again someday. Winter settings create a unique atmosphere, and there are still plenty of opportunities for new adventures and relationships to unfold among the snowy mountains.

Outlaw Girl was released last year on the platform Honeytoon. And that was a really hot and dangerous comic! Love it! And first, my question about it. Do you plan any sequels? 

MM: I’m very happy that Outlaw Girl was so well received by readers, because it was a major experiment for us. The series took us outside many of our usual storytelling patterns, and seeing readers embrace it was incredibly rewarding.

I can’t say anything about a potential continuation of the title at the moment. However, I can promise that we have more exciting stories on the way. You’ll be seeing characters and tropes that go beyond the familiar stepmom and stepsister dynamics, as we continue exploring fresh ideas and new types of relationships.

We’re especially interested in experimenting with more unusual power dynamics, character archetypes, and conflicts. Part of what makes storytelling exciting is the opportunity to surprise readers, and we’re always looking for new ways to do exactly that.

How exactly did writing such a tense title go? You explore a fiery mafia boss and a rookie cop dynamic. What draws you to enemies-to-lovers or power-imbalance stories?

MM: The characters were probably the biggest risk we took with this title. We weren’t sure how readers would respond to Selena, because she is very different from the types of female characters that traditionally appeal to our audience.

At the same time, that was exactly why we wanted to make the experiment. We wanted to challenge the usual power dynamics and create something less predictable. Instead of a story where authority naturally belongs to the police department and those enforcing the law, we flipped the balance and placed unexpected power in the hands of a chaotic mafia boss.

What fascinated me about Selena was that she wasn’t written as a victim. She is a force of nature—unpredictable, manipulative, and dangerous. She has the ability to completely turn the protagonist’s life upside down, pulling him into situations he never expected and forcing him to play by her rules. She isn’t someone who waits to be saved; she’s someone who actively pursues what she wants and is willing to leave destruction in her wake to get it.

That unconventional dynamic between the characters was one of the aspects that made the story so exciting to write.

What is your favorite webtoon on the platform, excluding your own, that inspires you?

MM: One of my favorite recent webtoons is Rob in Zone Cruise. It does an excellent job of blending humor, tension, and an engaging story with a cast of memorable characters.

What I especially enjoy is the protagonist and the dynamic that develops between him and the women around him. Every character has their own goals and motivations. They’re all trying to survive, navigate difficult situations, and come out ahead, which creates a lot of entertaining conflicts and unexpected interactions.

The series has a great balance of comedy, character-driven storytelling, and high-stakes situations, making it a really fun read. If you haven’t checked it out yet, I highly recommend giving it a chance.

Advice and Final Questions

What are the three most important tips you would give to new webtoon scriptwriters?

MM: The most important advice I would give—and advice that I try to follow myself—is, first of all, to make time for rest. Stories are born when there is space for creativity. As soon as writing becomes nothing but a production line, it becomes much harder to come up with fresh ideas and exciting solutions.

My second piece of advice is to live life as fully as possible. Don’t shut yourself away from new experiences. Travel, meet people, try new things, make mistakes, and collect memories. Those experiences eventually find their way into your stories and help you create characters and situations that feel authentic and relatable.

My third piece of advice is to constantly develop your storytelling literacy. Read widely, watch films and series critically, and expose yourself to as many different stories as possible. Nothing will help you grow as a writer more than understanding how other creators solve narrative problems, build characters, and engage their audiences.

Are there any upcoming projects, spin-offs, or new collabs you can tease?

MM: Readers can definitely look forward to some exciting surprises in the near future. We already have plans for new spin-offs based on some of our most popular and beloved stories. 

I can’t reveal too many details just yet, but I can say that you should expect stories in genres that are quite different from anything we’ve done before. We’re eager to explore new directions and surprise our readers with fresh ideas and unexpected settings.
