And hi again! This is Alex Corner, and I continue our series of interviews with the creative writers of HoneyToon – incredible people who create for us such a special mood.

And today’s guest on our blog is Heraldic Lilly, the author of the recently sensational Backseat Trip with My Stepmother, which takes readers on a very spicy journey to LA along Route 69. She is also the creator of May I Watch at Least, a comic built around the intense tension of the cuckold theme.

How It Started

Welcome to our blog, Lilly! Actually, can I call you like this?

HL: Hi! Yeah, of course! It’s an honor for me to speak with you.

Wow, you impress at first sight, just like your comics. I didn’t expect to see such a gorgeous woman as the creator of the comics.

HL: Thank you, Alex, that’s very kind of you.

How did you first get into writing adult webtoons for Honeytoon? Was there a specific story, drama, or personal spark that made you want to explore taboo, cheating, and forbidden family dynamics?

HL: Actually, it’s a chain of really interesting coincidences. About a year and a half ago, I had just finished my latest project and was starting to think about what interesting thing to dive into next. Right around that time, my friend posted an announcement that the Hooneytoon team was looking for writers. I already had writing experience, and in some aspects it was quite similar, so I decided to try and join the team. I successfully passed the test task and was accepted into the team very quickly. I still remember those feelings as if it were yesterday. Since then, the team has become like a second family to me. I love every single person in it.

Tell me about your beginnings. Was the first episode difficult to write? How did you feel when you saw it published on the Honeytoon platform?

HL: For me, the first episode was really special because it felt like the beginning of a very exciting journey. I tried to idealize every single panel, and it took me quite some time. Especially finding the right references and angles. Now the search process goes much faster because I’m much better oriented in the materials.

Of course, I’ll never forget my feelings when it was released on the platform – I finally saw the results of all my hard work. And it felt like when a writer holds the first copy of his book in their hands for the very first time. Yes, it’s a bit of a hyperbole, but those feelings are really hard to put into words.

Who or what inspired you when you first started, and what inspires you now? How do you think those influences are reflected in your early works?

HL: For me, my team has always been the biggest source of inspiration, because working with such positive, talented, and amazing people is a great happiness. The foundations of my creative path were laid by Mischievous Moon and Pantsumania, and I’m incredibly grateful to them for that. Later, I got to know other departments as well and realized that the company has a very positive spirit. After every team meeting, I feel energized with creativity, which gives me more strength to write new scripts.

The Creative Process

Tell us what your typical workday looks like. Are there any particular habits or little rituals you do before writing to inspire yourself?

HL: Oh, yes! Well… first of all, I love to sleep. I hate waking up early. Secondly, in the morning, my main rituals are a delicious breakfast and a big cup of aromatic coffee. And the last one is a short morning walk with my yorkie dog to wake up properly. After that, I can easily sit down and start writing the next episode. I also write quite well at night — it feels like the world freezes, and no one bothers you on social media or by phone, so it’s much easier to focus on writing.

How do you usually write your scripts? Do you plan out every panel, or first focus on the dialogue and main beats?

HL: Every writer works differently. When I first started creating comics, I used to plan every episode — deciding how many panels each scene would need. Now I don’t need that anymore, since I can easily visualize it in my head, so I go straight into writing the script panel by panel. Sometimes, while writing, I may adjust the number of panels allocated to a scene if needed. In other words, I’ve developed a fairly clear and well-rounded sense of the entire episode, which allows me to work at this pace, and I find this way of writing quite comfortable.

Many of your works revolve around awkward, tense, and “what if” situations (like a family road trip or inviting the boss home). Where do these ideas usually come from — real life, fantasies, or pure imagination?

HL: Actually, ideas for titles can be found literally everywhere. When I read a book, watch videos on YouTube, go shopping, or even meet with friends. Yes, because even in conversations with friends, you can hear something that later turns into a comic script. The key is to be able to notice themes or even small details that may be useful later on. Usually, if I catch something like that, I write it down in my phone’s notes, and later at home, I transfer it into my personal idea spreadsheet.

What’s the biggest challenge when writing confined-space stories (car, living room, etc.) compared to more open settings?

HL: Hell yeah! That scene in the car—I still remember my reaction to it. How on earth was Rachel supposed to fit between the seats? The scene really called for unusual angles and tighter, closer shots to make it work.

The Most Popular Tropes

Backseat Trip with My Stepmother has become one of the most talked-about titles on Honeytoon right now. What inspired the concept of this “exciting (and very awkward) family trip” in a confined backseat?

HL: My colleague, the showrunner, suggested creating a comic based on the theme of a classic American road trip. We brainstormed the main events together, adding a spicy twist to the travel theme, and then I developed the detailed script for the comic — that’s how Backseat Trip with My Stepmother was born.

After the release of Backseat Trip with My Stepmother, I realized that I wanted to explore the car theme in much more depth and breadth, and very soon (or maybe it has already been released), a new title with racing vibes — Fast and Curious — is coming out. Fans go crazy over the slow-burning tension between Ethan and his stepmother while the father is driving. How do you build that delicious awkward chemistry and escalating heat without making it feel forced?

HL: That’s a rather interesting question. I built the scenario starting from Ethan’s youthful passion. He’s still a fairly young college student who wants to explore his sexual side. As we can see, his father is quite strict with him, so the only person he feels he can confide in turns out to be Rachel, his stepmother. But on top of that, she’s also very attractive, which stirs up these inner desires in Ethan. All of this comes together in that moment when Rachel is sitting on his lap in the backseat of the car.

The story is full of “bump in the road” moments — both literal and figurative. What’s your favorite tense or heart-stopping scene in the series so far, and why?

HL: I’m quite a romantic person at heart, so I probably liked the ending the most — the part where Ethan and Rachel decide to continue the journey together, just the two of them.

But what really captivates me the most are episodes 3 and 4. I think that’s where the tension between the main characters is at its peak. There’s a real turning point there, and the events unfold in such an incredibly interesting way.

Readers often say the cliffhangers are killing them. Do you deliberately plan those “I can’t wait for the next chapter” moments, or do they just happen naturally while writing?

HL: In most cases, it depends on how the plot unfolds. Sometimes the story comes alive and starts leading me on its own, and I become curious to explore it and see where it will ultimately go. But there are also times when key moments are planned deliberately to keep the reader interested and excited about the development of the plot. However, we always keep in mind that in the end, we need to see a harmonious and logical chain of events.

Backseat Trip with My Stepmother became so popular that you and the team decided to create a spin-off of this title. This is the try in the BDSM theme, and its name is Crimson Bind.

HL: Yes! It was a really interesting challenge for me. Because writing a BDSM theme for comics was something I did for the very first time. I had to study the topic deeply, immerse myself in the pleasure that comes from light pain — how it actually feels — and even try some things on myself. I won’t go into the details with you, but I can say that I really liked it too 🤭.

In May I Watch At Least? You explore cuckold dynamics, jealousy, and a fading marriage that suddenly gets… interesting. What drew you to this kind of awakening story, and how do you balance thrill with emotional depth?

HL: Our team decided to try something a bit experimental for us — the cuckold theme — and explore it more deeply. Personally, I found it quite engaging because it includes a moment where the main character discovers more about himself and his desires. It’s about uncovering new emotions, new feelings, and new kinds of pleasure within oneself. And I personally think it’s very interesting to watch that unfold. You’re not just reading the story; you’re actually diving into the thoughts and sensations of the main character, and it makes you curious about where it might lead and how the situation will turn out for him in the future.

Mr. Johnson’s charismatic presence steals a lot of attention. How do you create such magnetic side characters that readers can’t stop talking about?

HL: Oh, he’s one of my favorite characters. I really enjoyed developing Mr. Johnson’s storyline and describing how he does the things he does 😉. He’s a man who is truly confident in himself and in his success. He doesn’t know rejection, and he doesn’t know defeat, because he always goes all the way. He isn’t even bothered by the presence of Hugh (the main character) on the scene. And the tension between Hugh and Mr. Johnson is incredibly interesting and really keeps you on edge. And I’ll confess in secret that I wouldn’t mind submitting to Mr. Johnson myself 😏.

Which character in your stories is the most fun (or hardest) for you to write, and why?

HL: I absolutely loved writing Rhys’s story in Fast and Curious, as it revolves around thrilling races and rebuilding one’s reputation and standing in the city. Rhys personally won me over with his determination, as well as his openness and straightforward nature.

He’s a character who feels very honest and grounded, which makes him especially inspiring to write and explore throughout the story.

Which webtoon on the platform (aside from your own) inspires you the most, and why?

HL: Hm… It’s really hard to choose. Maybe Prank Goes Wrong, written by Pantsumania. He’s a very skilled writer, and his plot twists are something else—they really stand out and keep you hooked.

Advice and final questions

Top 3 pieces of advice for new writers who want to create addictive adult taboo romance on platforms like Honeytoon?

HL: Well, first—don’t be afraid to start anything new. Second—read a lot of literature and webtoons, of course. And third—don’t be afraid of making mistakes, because everything can be fixed and everything can be learned.

Is there a trope or scenario you haven’t tried yet but really want to explore in the future? Maybe some little spoilers?

HL: Oh, yes, of course! There are so many themes that I’d like to work on. By the way, I’m already working on one. It’s a title set in a Wild West theme. It should be released soon, so I really hope you’ll like it.
